The images were originally developed as desktop backgrounds or 'wallpapers' for Windows, etc. Brief descriptions below.
This one was the easiest, although somehow it shouldn't have been just lucky I guess. Gamma corrected to give it a pleasantly soft, pastel colour effect. Well, I like it, anyway.
This is one of my early favourites. Enlarged from portrait inside Lionheart sleeve. As above, wasn't too difficult to make fill a screen. She looks much less severe at full size, honest.
This has a long history. Was originally scanned in monochrome, which was yuk. Later redone on a flatbed scanner, and much better for it. Nice natural sepia tinge.
Unbelievably this is straight from the Singles File video sleeve, where the figure is really rather small. Another triumph for the flatbed and no interference patterns either, even on that scale. Background re-engineered to remove edges and add extra width if you look carefully you can see the joins.
This much later one I did gave me a lot of aggravation. I needed to modify the background extensively through softening and stretching, but without disturbing the figure. I think it took me about two days, as I found myself restarting from the beginning again about a dozen times. At least I now know more about image masking techniques! This was straight off the Hammersmith video sleeve – latterly redone with the flatbed.
NAKED! (no I don't think so, she's probably wearing a towel at least) this is Kate as a '30-something'. Albeit teetering on the brink of middle-age (actually she's reached it as of July 1998), we are nevertheless reliably assured (in a recent Italian magazine article) that she is still, to quote my friend JRM, "A very fit looking woman..." Looks slightly p***d off, doesn't she? Maybe it was a chilly day it doesn't look very bright or was it a case of "Oh no, how many more photographs?" The ivy will have a special significance to those for whom Under The Ivy is a particular favourite...
Isn't this cute? If you ever wondered what Kate might look like as a blonde, this is it. Actually, a cellophane blonde...
I couldn't place this at first but actually it's the 'ghost in the machine' character for the Experiment IV video, hence I'm assuming the cellophane strips are symbolic of recording tape. It's her only appearance; the other players are TV actors. The ending is straight from the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark; first she appears as a beautiful 'angel' (as above), flies about a bit, then turns into a hideous monster and slays everybody. If you've not seen this yet you'll cack yourself when you do...
Not sure where this is from. It's nice though. Lurve the hat.
I ought to know where this is from but can't remember. Answers on a postcard to the usual address...
This is as the Running Up That Hill single sleeve but without the writing all over it. It's actually based on fact one of Kate's hobbies is or was archery, so she knows what she's doing!
One of a series to promote Sat In Your Lap as a single, from The Dreaming album. Pretty picture.
Detail of the Hounds Of Love album sleeve.
For the Cloudbusting single, as per the video. Rumour has it that this 'machine' still survives languishing in a garage somewhere. It's largely made of painted cardboard.
Oh Grandma, what BIG EYES you have this is the cover for The Whole Story compilation. There was also a video set and a book biography to go with this.
I'm currently using this as a wallpaper. This is 768 pixels high for large screen. I like it better than the actual wallpaper you can get off katebush.com.
This was described as "Kate Bush with hat."
I'll go along with that. It's from Aerial.
