Hi to you all.... Has anybody ever made or used this amp kit
?, I have just got a pair that have been built as mono blocks ( somebody has
made a very nice job in building these) They run class AB1, Valves used are 2X
el34 1x ecc83 1 xef86 . I have been running them along side my leak st 20 &
have to say both amps have things i like about them, after running the maplin
amps the leak sounds abit hard & thin but has more top end. The maplin amps
sounds deeper and sweeter if that makes sense ?. The voice sounds great on both
amps. Have turned them off for the night now as my head is spinning, Guess i
need to play each amp for a week or two then swap over ?. The rest of the system
used is a Marantz cd17 , A home made passive pre amp & Tannoy 611 mk2 floor
standers. Thanks Steve....

hi swithers, I bought a turntable of the same guy in
manchester as these, nice amps.
said he didn't want to sell the amps at the
time, so wonder what changed his mind.

Looks like a relatively recent pair, judging by the upgraded
transformers.
Mine have the original trannies and suffer from overpowering
but vague bass and ultimately, lack of detail resolving ability when compared to
better things.
For me, running them in in triode mode helped a bit as did
changing the std coupling caps for something nicer.
